This course is an advanced introduction to the policy-relevant side of STS. We will examine three broad topics:Â 1. How states shape scientific research and the development of technologies and infrastructures. 2. How legislators and regulatory bureaucracies use scientific knowledge and expert opinion in decision-making processes. 3. How publics, particularly social movements, engage in political processes that are dominated by scientific and technological experts.Â
