Optical Fiber Communications

ECSE-7010

Review of the state of the art in optical fibers, light sources, and photodetectors. Topics include: propagation, coupling, dispersion, loss and cut-off characteristics of guided wave models in optical fibers, structural and operating parameters of various types of heterostructure lasers and light-emitting diodes and quantum efficiency, response time and noise characteristics of silicon PAD and PIN diodes. Also includes applications of optical fibers in optical communications, in data processing, and in control systems.
