Advanced Applied Micropaleontology

ERTH-6200

This course will encompass marine, freshwater, and terrestrial microfossils (with emphasis on foraminifera), including taxonomy, evolutionary history, ecology and paleoenvironments, and a broad spectrum of micropaleontological applications, such as sea-level and climate reconstructions, geochemical analyses, oil industry research and production, and forensic geology. This course will also cover concepts of biostratigraphy and micropaleontological applications to stratigraphic correlation and time scale construction. Extensive hands-on microscope and lab work will be required. Â
