The course is designed to introduce students to the discipline of sports management and provide a basic understanding of the principles and issues in the field. Different types of organizations in the sports industry will be studied, the role they play in the field and what differentiates them from each other. There will be a particular emphasis in the areas of professional and intercollegiate athletics. The role sports play in social issues will be discussed. The different functions in the sports industry will be discussed to provide information about career opportunities in the industry.
